About Us
Jarickni Stud was established in 1997, situated on 20 acres of creek flats in Bendigo, Central Victoria.
The love for Buckskin's stems back to Jan's childhood, with her first pony Jola being a Buckskin. Fast forward to present day and nothing has changed. The endless quest for the elusive Buckskin foal is always a fun ride each breeding season.
The title of 'Jarickni' was designed to be inclusive of the first letters of all the girls names in the family. J for Jan, R for Renee, C for Chloe and K for Kelsey and the other letters to tie it all together.
Initially breeding Australian Ponies/Part Welsh, the move was made to aim to breed larger ponies and so purebred Arabian Stallion Taloumbi Lodge El Shaaka (El Thamir x Chip Chase Touch of Magic) was purchased in March 2004 to cover pony mares, resulting in Arabian Pony foals.
We lost Shaaka prematurely due to a freakish accident resulting in a broken back leg after only 2 years at Stud. He left some beautiful progeny behind, among those crossing very well to Cobarb Cremello (Jarickni Charleze & Jarickni Talequah). We also had some stunning foals by Richdale Ransom & Sidonia Park Cinnabar who were the stallions that inspired Jan & Renee to seek out Shaaka.
Renee looked into Woranora Stud's drop of foals from 2011 and contacted Helen Dohan regarding a Buckskin Colt out of Woranora Jewel by the newly imported Ysselvliedts Golden Boy (NL). A Welsh A gelding to be, perfect for Mum as he was not to exceed 12hh and no plaiting required, little did we know that, that foal was to become Woranora Jasper, kick starting our love and admiration for the Welsh Mountain pony, and of course, wrapped in our favourite colour - Buckskin!
We hope to be able to breed one or two Mountain Pony foals a year
and enjoy being apart of the breed.
With Jan's daughters exhibiting a group of mares (Jarickni Charleze/Jarickni Talequah/Brydings Miss Essta/Jay Park Velvet), Jarickni Calypso's health in question and the moving on of Brosha Park Ferrero to a smaller rider at the new home, Mum wanted a small gelding to exhibit herself, to bring along to the Buckskin shows with the mares.
